Hebrews 12:1-3 ~  10/18/2020
Dr. Scott T. Arnold ~ First Baptist Church of Los Angeles, CA

INTRODUCTION:  Faith is the “X” factor:

  1. that realizes that we are witnesses of God’s Kingdom.
  2. that runs the course with perseverance.
  3. that picks up one’s cross while enduring persecution.

I.
Faith involves vision  (Hebrews 12:1)

  1. Vision of belonging and engagement in God’s Kingdom  1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses,
  2. Faith to Overcome Sin daily  let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.
  3. Courage to run the race of life with endurance  And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,

II. Faith focuses on the Ministry of Jesus. (Heb. 12:2)

  1. To Believe and receive Jesus. (2a) 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.
  2. To serve joyfully while enduring suffering and shaming. (12:2b) For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

III. Faith for today and hope for tomorrow. (Heb. 12:3)

  1. Believers will encounter opposition. (3a) 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners,
  2. Take heart God is with you and will give you strength. (3b) so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Conclusion:

  • Extreme faith bears a faithful witness for Jesus Christ.
  • Extreme faith endures challenges with greater trust in God.
  • Extreme faith overcomes trials through God’s grace and truth.
