Thanksgiving Sunday at First Baptist Church of Los AngelesWritten by FBCLA Support on Nov 12, 2017 in BlogChurch OutreachEventsPrayer - No Comments
Sunday, November 19 is Thanksgiving Sunday. This is a special Sunday where we come together in corporate worship in giving thanks to God for who he is and what he has done for us! A special Thanksgiving offering will be received on that day. I encourage you to give a liberal offering in appreciation for the many blessings that God continues to bestow upon us.
We have so much to be thankful for. In fact, every day should be a day of thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a word that appears before the word Thanksgiving Day and after thanksgiver in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary online. One of the definitions of the word is “a prayer expressing gratitude”. The first use of the word dates all the way back to 1533
One of the things I like about Thanksgiving is that it gives us a specific day to reflect on the goodness of God and all of the wonderful blessings that God has given us. While we may not have as many things as other people have, we can all be thankful for our family, church and friends who love us and the life God has given us.
Help Me Thanksgiving Day Prayer
O God, when I have food,
help me to remember the hungry;
When I have work,
help me to remember the jobless;
When I have a home,
help me to remember those who have no home at all;
When I am without pain,
help me to remember those who suffer,
help me to destroy my complacency;
bestir my compassion,
and be concerned enough to help;
By word and deed,
those who cry out for what we take for granted.
